Linda Newbery’s The Sandfather makes the prestigious 2010 IBBY Honour list

The Sandfather

The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Honour List is a biennial selection of outstanding, recently published books, honouring writers, illustrators and translators from IBBY member countries. The IBBY Honour List is one of the most widespread and effective ways of furthering IBBY's objective of encouraging international understanding through children's literature.

IBBY holds its annual congress in Spain in September 2010 and it is at the congress that the full list of nominated titles, including The Sandfather, will be launched with an exhibition and an accompanying catalogue. This exhibition will then travel to several countries, including the Bologna Book Fair, during the following two years and a permanent collection is held in Zurich.

Linda says of the honour:

“I was surprised and delighted to hear that The Sandfather has been chosen by IBBY UK for the international honour list. IBBY is such an important organisation, promoting children's books and reading in all languages, so it's a tremendous honour to be included in the distinguished line-up of authors, illustrators and translators from all over the world.”
