Coinciding with today’s publication of The Somnambulist, Essie Fox’s stunning gothic debut set in Victorian England, Victoriana is back in the news. Not only have Bonhams just announced the sale of a pre-raphaelite painting by the same name, but the iconic Wilton’s Music Hall is in desperate need of your help.
Valued at a meer £70,000 - £100,000(!), The Somnambulist by John Everett Millais is a Victorian masterpiece, the like of which has not been seen since (well, until The Somnambulist by Essie Fox hits the bookshops today), and will be a highlight of the 19th Century Paintings auction on 13th July 2011 at Bonhams New Bond Street.
The future of another Victorian masterpiece, Wilton’s Music Hall, as featured in The Somnambulist, is in real jeopardy after the Heritage Lottery Fund rejected it’s bid for funding. To avoid being closed down, Wilton’s now have the daunting task of raising £3.8 million to save the building. And they need everyone’s help now.
